Chemin De Fer

Unlike Chemin de Fer the position of the banker in Banque or Deux Tableaux Baccarat is not so variable. The objective of Baccarat Banque is still to reach 9, but in this game, the position of the dealer is given to the player willing to wager the highest stake at the outset of the game. Then the banker gives six cards to each player. The players than turn over their cards, add up the totals, and either draw cards or stand. In Baccarat Banque, the players may wager on other players' hands, but never on the hand of the dealer.

The role of the bank can be played differently and this the main difference between different Baccarat variations. In the version of the game known as Chemin de Fer, the position of the banker passes clockwise from player to player each time the banker loses rather than being fixed by the individual casino. Throughout the game the player who plays the role of the banker will be provided with funds. The role of the banker can be passed to the next player. Each Baccarat game has the same principle. The player’s hand to be as close to 9 as possible. The game starts by the banker dealing four cards to each player and to himself, then each player turns his cards over and sum the value of all cards. Traditionally if the total is lower than 5, the player draws one more card, if the total is 5 or higher the player stands. The total of the hands is then compared and the player with the best hand (closest to 9) wins.

The origin of Punto Banco has always been discussed. Punto Banco is said to have originated from George Raft’s Capri casinos in Cuba. The game's creator, Tommy Renzoni, stated in his book that Punto Banco, as it was called in Cuba, was brought to Las Vegas by him in the late 1950s. When this game was first brought to the casinos, the Sands casinos lost 0,000. Baccarat was said to have been conceptualized in Italy in the 1480s from a deck of tarot cards. The word ‘baccarat’ means ‘zero’ in Italian, that’s why the game got its name ‘baccarat’, as the value of most cards is zero. Early Baccarat stories claim that the game is based on an old Etruscan ritual of the nine gods, who prayed to a blonde virgin on their tiptoes waiting for her to throw a nine-sided die. The result of the die decided her fate. If an eight or a nine was thrown, she would become the priestess. If 6 or 7 was rolled the virgin was prohibited from any further religious activities. If she threw any number less than six, she would walk into the sea.
In the 1550s the game appeared in France, where it got its new name. Now it was called ‘Chemin de Fer’. However, the French also claim credit for inventing Baccarat. Either way, the French aristocracy, always seeking new and different idle pastimes, warmed to the game immediately. Then the game appeared in Argentina, it was played in casinos of Mar del Plata.
