One of the main differences between the different variations of Baccarat is the position of the banker and who undertakes it. In the version of the game known as Chemin de Fer, the position of the banker passes clockwise from player to player each time the banker loses rather than being fixed by the individual casino. Throughout the game the player who plays the role of the banker will be provided with funds. A player may, if he or she wishes, pass up the opportunity to be the banker; in which case, it simply passes to the next person. Each Baccarat game has the same principle. The player’s hand is to be as close to 9 as possible. In Chemin de Fer, the banker deals four cards for each of the players and for himself; each participant now turns over the cards and adds the numbers on each together. Traditionally if the total is lower than 5, the player draws one more card, if the total is 5 or higher the player stands. The hands are then compared and the person who has the hand closest to 8 or 9 receives the pay-out.

There has never been a certain view point about the origin of Punto Banco or Baccarat. Punto Banco, originated from George Raft's Capri Casino in Havana, Cuba before Fidel Castro took over. In Las Vegas Punto Banco was brought by Tommy Renzoni in the late 1950s. When this game was played in the Sands casino for the first time, the casino lost 0,000. The first version of the game appeared in Italy in the 1480s from a deck a tarot cards. The Italian word "baccarat" means "zero" because most of the cards then hold a point value of zero-tens, Jacks, Queens and Kings of all suits. Early Baccarat stories claim that the game is based on an old Etruscan ritual of the nine gods, who prayed to a blonde virgin on their tiptoes waiting for her to throw a nine-sided die. Her fate depended on the result of the die. If an eight or a nine was thrown, she would become the priestess. If 6 or 7 was rolled the virgin was prohibited from any further religious activities. If any other number was rolled she could walk into the sea.
In the 1500's, Baccarat was introduced to the French by the Italians. The game was then called "Chemin de Fer." The French people say that the game of Baccarat originated from France. Then the game appeared in Argentina, it was played in casinos of Mar del Plata.
